Northern CAN rises alarm over recent kidnappings in Kaduna


The publicity Secretary, 19 Northern States and Abuja of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Rev. Joseph Hayab, has called on security agents to ensure proper intelligence gathering and networking towards curbing the activities of kidnappers that have become the order of the day especially in Kaduna State.

He also called on the government to sit up to its responsibilities and ensure the safeguarding of lives and property of the entire citizens.

Making the view of the Northern CAN known to DAILY POST in Kaduna Saturday, on the recent kidnapping of three clergymen, a military officer and others, Rev. Hayab enjoined citizens to support the security agents so that together the illicit act could be completely eliminated in the society.

He observed that the recent killing of Rev. Iliya Anto and the military officer after whisking them away was a very worrying situation that requires the attention of all well meaning Nigerians to evolve ways towards eradicating the devilish act in the society.

“It is unfortunate that the recent kidnapping in Kaduna is becoming unbearable. We condemned it in its totality and there is the urgent need for all well meaning Nigerians to assist the security and government agencies responsible for curbing the menace to ensure its eradication.

“Reports have shown that this kidnapping has been going on until recently that three pastors were kidnapped and the kidnapping of the military officer resulting in the killing of one pastor and the Military officer as most disturbing,” he lamented.

The publicity Secretary noted that when a community begins to live in fear and uncertainty, it sends a bad signal that all is not well and the urgent need to address the situation before it gets out of hands.
“We need to rise up and ensure that those perpetrating this evil act are fish out and ensure total end of this evil in the society, ” he added.

Rev. Hayab explained that one of the three pastors abducted and eventually found dead had at the time of the abduction gone through surgery, adding that, “We don’t know what happened but we want to believe that the absence of medical attention may have caused his death.”

He called on the citizens to be vigilant and report anybody found to have questionable character or any strange face whose way of life is questionable for immediate action to be taken to forestall any unforeseen circumstance in the community.
