At least 160 Anglican Bishops the world over will attend the consecration of the new Cathedral in Owerri. The construction of the Cathedral of Transformation of Our Lord started in 1979. Most Rev. Nicholas D. Okoh, Primate of All Nigeria Anglican Communion and Bishop of Abuja would also attend the ceremony.
The Chairman, of the Organising Committee for the dedication of CATOL, Mr. Ndukwe Nnewuchi, said on Friday that the ceremony would hold on Sunday. Nnewuchi said that the event would also attract other eminent personalities across the country and Anglican leaders the world over.
He further said the arrangement had been perfected to ensure a memorable hosting of church leaders. Nnewuchi further told the journalists that the five South East governors were expected to attend the event.
The chairman said four deacons would be ordained before the consecration of the multi-million naira cathedral. Nnewuchi, who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), noted that CATOL was completed recently by Bishop Cyril Okorocha with some adjustments.
Okorocha is the Anglican Bishop of Owerri
“The original architectural design of CATOL was done in 1979, though the design has changed over time, the construction which is somehow different from the initial design is to meet the contemporary architectural designs,” he said.
Nnewuchi said that adequate security arrangements had been made to ensure a hitch-free program.
He also said personnel of the Police and those of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps would provide security during the event.
