Lagos State Police Command has vowed to fish out the fleeing pastor of New Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Ogombo, near Ajah area of Lagos State, to explain the circumstances behind the death of two brothers, Abiodun and Ayinde Oniru, who allegedly died during a spiritual bath in a stream in the area, at the weekend.
Lagos State police public relations officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu told LEADERSHIP at the state police command headquarters, Ikeja, yesterday, that police detectives attached to Ogombo police station arrested one of the pastors of the church who also served as the secretary to the church (name withheld), at the weekend.
Nwosu said the police had vowed to fish out the runaway pastor, Samuel Adesoji, adding that the case would be transferred from the police station yesterday.
The two brothers, Abiodun and Ayinde Oniru and their half-brother were said to have been moved to the church by their mother and step-father to observe the ‘special’ cleansing and were allegedly persuaded by the clergymen to do the bidding of God. The two brothers obeyed but their half-brother refused and left the stream.
The spiritual bath turned sour when Abiodun and Ayinde drowned.
Police detectives attached to Ogombo police station were said to have stormed the church.
Nwosu said, “The police are doing everything humanly possible to arrest the main (senior) pastor who is on the run. Police arrested the church secretary who is also a pastor. We want to transfer the case today from Ogombo police station to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti. Investigation is still ongoing”.
