More than 1,500 residents of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Sunday, besieged the premises of Winners’ Chapel, situated along Ring Road, Osogbo, to benefit from food supplies sent by the Presiding Bishop of the church, Bishop David Oyedepo.

Tribune Online gathered that the parking lots of the church were taken over by mostly civil servants, retirees and other categories of individuals who had heard about the planned food distribution.

It was learnt that the development was part of the measures being taken by the church to alleviate the hardship of the people, occasioned by the non-payment of salaries arrears of workers in the state.

Some Muslims women in veil and hijab were also sighted among the crowd, queuing for distribution of rice and groundnut oil by officials of the church.
The state pastor of Winners’ Chapel, Pastor Emmanuel Olumiyiwa, had last Wednesday announced during the midweek service that a truckload of foodstuff would arrive the church for distribution to the needy in the society.
Delivering his sermon, Pastor Olumiyiwa maintained that that the church had been blessed to be a blessing unto the poor and the needy irrespective of their religion.

He stated, “that is the reason the church has been given to welfarism by distributing food items. We also distributed foodstuff last month. God does not bless people so that they can be a container, He blesses people so that they can bless others.

“Rather than acquisition of wealth, we should cultivate the habit of giving to those around us, and in return we would receive more blessings from God.”
