Lawmakers under the aegis of Christian Legislators Fellowship International, on Thursday prayed for wisdom and divine guidance for President Goodluck Jonathan and members of his cabinet to take the best step on the issue of schoolgirls abducted from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.
This was contained in a statement in Abuja by the President of the CLFI, Senator Uche Chukwumerije.
The action of the lawmakers may not be unconnected with the decision of the federal government to welcome foreign support in its bid to rescue the over 200 abducted schoolgirls from the grips of their captors.
The lawmakers, who lamented the security challenges bedeviling the nation and described it as a watershed in the history of Nigeria, further prayed that rather than escalating the volatile situation, the foreign supports would end all forms of insurgency in the country.
They noted with regret that the crisis in the north eastern part of the country particularly the terror and palpable fear being created by the Boko Haram insurgents in the hearts of Nigerians, called for a great concern.
The lawmakers urged the entire citizenry to pray and fast for the speedy resolution of the security challenges in the country especially the abduction of the students of the Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State.
They commended the efforts of the government, the military and security agencies aimed at recovering the abducted girls from the grips of the terrorists, stressing that “all hands should be on the deck to make the foreign supports, a success.”
The legislators further expressed delight that the involvement of the government of America, Britain, China, and Canada among others, in the search for the missing girls, will invariably yield positive results.
They said, “We therefore call on Nigerians to arise and pray that the God of all creation will sustain the nation, and grant our leaders, the wisdom to take appropriate decisions that we rescue our people who are currently entrapped in fears.
“The cooperation of all concern is also needed to build a nation where peace and justice shall reign.”
The CLFI also implored its members to intensify prayers for the growth and expansion of the six-year old group which is already established in 21 out of the 36 states of the federation.
The statement explained that the CLFI is “a platform where legislators and staff are nurtured as watchmen in the onerous task of nation building.”
