The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Nasarawa Province 1 on Friday distributed 100 reflective jackets to commercial motorcycle riders in Aso, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
This is part of the church’s effort in helping the motorcyclists irrespective of their religious beliefs to imbibe safety tips in their work.
The church prayed for them, counselled them and gave them food. Over N300,000 was said to be expended for the programme.
Speaking before distribution of the jackets, the Provincial Pastor of RCCG, Nasarawa Province 1, Pastor Titus Adedoyin said, “One finds that there’re so many okada [commercial motorcycle] riders around here. That’s their vocation.
“We’re familiar with okada riders and okada accidents. So what can we do? Let’s interact with the okada riders. Let’s give them safety tips. Let’s kit them properly. Let them not wear rags and ride.’’
Pastor Francis Onuegbu, Assistant Provincial Pastor in Charge of Corporate Social Responsibility Nasarawa Province 1 said, the church is moved by consideration to let the motorcyclists know that life is precious.
The chairman of the motorcyclists in Karu Local Government Area, Alhaji Musa Haruna, said the coming together of both Christians and Muslims showed that “we’re all one. I support this because there’s no show of tribalism.”
