[ARTICLE] “Be Good” by Aguma Chima Koke

I want to celebrate a personality – Mr. Isaac Utere, the CEO of Media Works Port-Harcourt, Nigeria. I call him Dad, not just because people love to call him that; but at some point in my life I lived, ate and learnt so much in his famous tree house.

I remembered my invitation he honoured, though stayed for 10 minutes or so; it was everything to me, because you rarely or almost never find him in any church event.

Some years ago Dad was teaching and advising me about artistes, and he said; “Loyalty and Greed is the major problem he has faced so far”. So I asked him why he is still keen on this path, he replied; “Koke, to support people na the only tin wey dey sweet my big belly, I no fit stop to help and support talented people, no matter the insults I receive. (Koke, to support is the only thing that satisfies my big belly, I can’t stop helping and supporting talented persons, no matter the insult i receive)” I went home thinking about myself, If I’m giving enough.

Everyday, I’m grateful for Pere Jason and Okaka Boy; music artistes I manage. When we started working, I told them It’s beyond music and contracts; it’s about friendship and total commitment from me. I will support their brand till no support is left of me (Which is impossible). This is who I am, what gives me joy the most, how I was raised.

When I started recommending some of Port-Harcourt finest gospel artistes, I haven’t met most of them at that time. I have never had “money” issue with any artist in my life (Call me out please). A lot can be said why people have mischievous character whenever it involves money, but the reason why you’re going on this journey from the start should get you thinking straight again; is greed or stealing part of your “Why”?

Everyone needs a little help sometimes. After all, no one is meant to go through life alone. If life has given you blessings, it’s important to share those with your community. For some people, that could mean volunteering with a local charity organisation or donating for a good cause. For others, sharing blessings might be as simple as having a conversation with someone or lending emotional support to a friend who is going through a tough time.

A Bible verse about helping others remind us that one crucial way to demonstrate your love for God, is to take action here on Earth and help others. Bringing the Lord’s love into your community is a powerful act. It may not always be easy, but as a person of faith, God calls upon you to serve others and bring his light to them.

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” – Hebrews 13:16

One of the ways you can demonstrate your love for the Lord, is to be compassionate and caring towards those you encounter here on earth; even small gestures can mean a great deal for someone.

Be good to someone today.
