[ARTICLE] “Learn How To Say ‘No'” by Aguma Chima Koke

If you want your ‘YES’ to have value, you need to learn how to use and appreciate ‘NO’; which is a complete sentence. You don’t need everyone to be great, you only need a few like minds to be great.

People usually say when you push up in life, you often leave some friends behind. As you progress, life open you up to different areas; your weakness and strength. We must continue to work on our weaknesses and strength; some of the friends we keep are actually our weakness. It’s your responsibility to keep growing and if it means leaving anyone behind, you have to move up anyways. Please don’t be hard on yourself whenever you realize you’re slowly pulling off from an age long friend, you are responding to change and deep relational growth.

Some people will never relate with you until they know you have stopped relating to someone who they feel will wreck their business.

Let see the Bible in Acts 15:37-41 (MSG); Barnabas wanted to take John along, the John nicknamed Mark. But Paul wouldn’t have him; he wasn’t about to take along a quitter who, as soon as the going got tough, had jumped ship on them in Pamphylia. Tempers flared, and they ended up going their separate ways: Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus; Paul chose Silas and, offered up by their friends to the grace of the Master, went to Syria and Cilicia to build up muscle and sinew in those congregations.

How do you deal with this.
Audit your friends all the time.
What are they doing now and what are they thinking of doing; very key.
Pray about the process.

While going through this process, you must show maturity and respect. You can pull out from people, without actually fighting or disrespecting them.
A wise person once said; “some friendship will expire their time…, instead of pretending to be cool, learn to let go and move on”.

Learn how to say ‘No’ and not feel bad about it.
