Church cry for justice over slain Pastor

The Assemblies of God Church, Katsina Missionary Area, has petitioned the Katsina State Governor, Dr.  Ibrhaim Shema, security agencies and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over the murder of Pastor Paulinus Ifeanyi Chukwu Dikeocha.

A letter dated February, 11, 2014 and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Katsina Police Command, signed by Dr. Baba Fada (chairman) and Rev. G.C. Ireogbu (secretary)  on behalf of the area and Dikeocha’s family, is seeking the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the murder of the clergy.

The 42 years old father of one who was married to Mrs. Favour Dikeocha was murdered  by some people in Kankia where he resided on Tuesday February 4, 2014, in broad daylight.

“He was a peace-loving man from Imo State and has been the pastor of the church in Kankia since 2009 when he was posted there. He was the chairman of CAN in Kankia Local Government Area,” the letter read in part.

It added: “We are crying out for justice. The family, church and the society at large are crying out for justice. Kindly use your good offices to bring the perpetrators of this wicked, dastardly and barbaric act to book.

“When we met the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Kankia on Tuesday,  February 6, 2014, he informed us that some persons have been arrested in connection with the incident. We ask that the matter be thoroughly investigated and diligently prosecuted.”

The letter also implored the police boss not to allow  miscreants to tarnish the good reputation and leadership of both the state and the police command, which they said have been peaceful and prosperous.

Dikeocha was beaten and burnt to death by hundreds of Kankia residents claiming that a corpse of a six year old girl was found close to his house. The perpetrators also set the pastor’s house and a church in the community ablaze. Briefing newsmen after the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina, Mohammed Hurdi, while confirming the incidence, said that investigation has commenced and assured that the perpetrators would be brought to book.
