Scores of hoodlums, yesterday, invaded the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Pillar of Fire located LA primary school area of Akure, the Ondo state capital during service.
Eye witnesses report that the hoodlums flogged the Pastor of the church, Pastor Arije and other church members.
The thugs who were said to have stormed the church on motorcycles also destroyed some other items such as plastic Chairs, wall Clock, window glass and electrical appliances among other items found in the church after the members had run away for safety.
An eyewitness said the policemen who came to calm the situation arrested some of the hoodlums but they were attacked by the mob who consequently rescued the arrested thugs, adding that while trying to arrest the thugs and calm the situation, one of the policemen was also stabbed on the neck with a broken bottle by one of the hoodlums.
While the cause of the attack remains sketchy, Daily Post reports that a rival Pastor of one of the churches within the area might have sponsored the attack.
The attack was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Wole Ogodo who said details of the incident was still sketchy and that the Command was still investigating the reason for the action of the hoodlums.
