Beware of scammers asking for money in my name — Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has warned Nigerians to be wary of a syndicate using his name and that of his wife to request money and invite people to unknown programmes on social media.

The man of God, popularly called ‘Daddy G.O,’ made this known at the wee hours of Saturday during the Holy Ghost Night of the 2013 Holy Ghost Congress, held at the Redemption Camp, Kilometre 46, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.

The one-week programme with the theme: “The Overflow” which ended late Saturday night, was monitored via satellite in Warri, Delta State.

Adeboye, who spent about five minutes issuing  the warning to the huge gathering at the congress ground after preaching, said he was aware of some faceless people who had cultivated the habit of requesting money for one urgent medical or humanitarian need from unsuspecting users of Facebook in his name and that of his wife, saying they were not true.

He described as untrue the claim by the scammers that people should contribute money for him to be taken to India for a medical attention, stating he was never sick of any ailment.

“Don’t mind people who are telling you on Facebook that I said you should give money to people like orphanages, don’t give them your money. In fact, one of them said that the devil is sick and he wants to go to India for operation and asked you to send money. You can see me, I’m not sick; I’m healthy, I’m strong and I’m going to remain healthy till Jesus comes,” the septuagenarian stated.

Pastor Adeboye, who also requested that people should ignore his wife’s impersonators, enjoined people to identify and report such criminals to the mission for onward arrest and prosecution by the Nigeria Police.

“Some of them are also trying to impersonate my wife on Facebook and so on. Just ignore them. But if you can identify them, just contact us and we will let the police do their job.
