A man in Lagos has appealed to a customary court to end his 24-year marriage due to a change of church by his wife.
63-year-old Joseph Okeleke told the court sitting in Ikorodu that his wife, Uju had moved to the controversial Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement from his own Celestial Church of Christ.
He said:
“She is troublesome and adulterous. Uju joined the Lord’s Chosen while I was going to Celestial Church of Christ. How on earth can my wife attend another church under my roof? She has also turned my children against me.“She has also said she would divorce me because her church doctrine does not allow her to be a second wife. “In fact, she has turned our five children against me and she lacks control. Please separate us I am no more interested,’’ he said.
Uju also asked for the marriage to be dissolved as she said that she was tired of the marriage:
“I want to divorce my husband so that I can make heaven.“My husband’s first wife is the original owner of our husband and my new church made me believe that being a second wife to another person’ husband is a sin.“I have never been adulterous in my life. He is just saying that to back up his claims. I am also no longer interested in the marriage, please separate us,’’ Uju said.
The case was adjourned by the court president.
